Phil GamberPhil, graduate of Michigan State University in 1998, has worked as a Clinical Social Worker in the Greater Lansing area for over the past ten years. He was previously employed at Sparrow Behavioral Health Services at the Outpatient Mental Health Clinic and CARES-EAP. Most recently he was an owner of Mareck and Associates, serving the Geriatric Community by providing home-based counseling and assessment services. He was co-owner of Adrian Psychotherapy Associates until 2006; a private-practice clinic which specializes in family treatment.

He has clinical experience in working with children of all ages, with particular emphasis in working with teenagers and college aged adults. He works with older adults and medically frail individuals in their homes, providing assessments and on-going psychotherapy. He completed clinical training in Substance Abuse treatment; he treats addictions of all kinds and specializes in treating dually diagnosed individuals. He works with couples/families to improve their relationships and ability to communicate with one another.



lennaLenna immigrated to the United States in 1986, from Toronto Ontario. She left her native country, the former Soviet Union in 1979. She has her first Master’s Degree from the Moscow Pedagogical Institute. She has practiced as a Clinical Social Worker for over ten years since completing her Master’s Degree in Clinical Social Work in 1996 at Michigan State University. She previously worked at Ingham Regional Medical Center in their Older Adult programs.

She continues her work with Older Adults, providing assessment and counseling services with Beacon Counseling Services, LLC. She has worked for the past five years with Child and Family Services providing assessment and counseling services for children, adolescents, adults and older adults. She works with children above age 7, adolescents and families, young and older adults. She works with the following issues: depression, anxiety, older adults coping with life transitions/changes, grief, children coping with special needs (adoption, foster care), marital problems, family problems, anger management with adults and children. Carrie received her Bachelors of Arts degree in Social Work from Michigan State University in 1997 and her Masters of Social Work degree from Wayne State University in 1998. She began her clinical practice working at the Children’s Center in Detroit. She was subsequently the Child and Family Therapist for Central MI Community Mental Health and started seeing clients in a private practice setting in 2003. Carrie has also taught Sociology classes at the collegiate level. Carrie has experience working with children, adolescents, families and adults on a wide variety of issues, including depression and other mood disorders, anxiety, behavioral disorders, grief, ADHD and trauma. A lifelong believer in the innate health of all people, Carrie utilizes a strengths-based approach with care and compassion.




Janet L. Howes, LMSW-C/M, ACSW, has been a medical social workerand therapist since 1971. Her experience has covered a broad range of issues and she has been able to assist countless people find the solutions they seek by tapping into their own strengths, providing resources and information, and by practicing new ways of perceiving, processing, and responding.

Now associated with Beacon Counseling, Janet has operated in the Lansing area for over 20 years. She is a part of the community and she is here to help. Several types of insurance are accepted as well as cash payment. Her current practice specializes in chronic illness, Alzheimer's and related dementias, Huntington's Disease, end of life issues,relationship problems, anxiety, families new to the United States,military service, substance abuse, and depression.

Janet Howes was recognized as Michigan's Social Worker of the Year in 2001 by the National Association of Social Workers - Michigan Chapter. She continues to build upon the values and skills that make her stand out among her peers in a way that offers her clients exceptional service of a caring and experienced professional. She is a 1971 graduate of the University of Michigan School of Social Work, majoring in Group Work and Case Work. She has a Master's of Social Work (1971) and has worked professionally in the field of counseling, support groups, and case management in a clinical setting.
